Zhang Dali, born in 1963 in Harbin, is probably the most famous chinese street artist. He gained attention worldwide for posting over 2000 graffiti likenesses of himself on walls around Beijing in self-present yet absent conversation with the city. He would spray paint and carve head into buildings that are to be deconstructed.
Zhang Dali's work captivates the reality of Chinese society. He depicts his opinion of the rapid globalization and as well as the way people are being treated.
In his latest project, A Second History, he investigated a pre-photoshop era when state censors and retouchers removed extraneous peasants, disgraced officials, and other undesirable details from Mao-centric compositions.Zhang was interested both in the political ramifications of these alterations and the delicate artistry the censors practiced in their adjustments of the historical documents.
