The Container, as the name suggests, is literally a shipping container (485x180x177cm) that have been constructed inside Bross hair salon in trendy Nakameguro district in Tokyo and is utilised to showcase challenging contemporary art. The brainchild of Tokyo-based curator Shai Ohayon, The Container hosts four exhibitions a year by local and international artists who defy conventional art practices. Unlike traditional galleries, each exhibition runs for approximately two-and-half months.

Although The Container was set up mainly as an exhibition space, with emphasis on showing more quirky and challenging works, many collectors are already charmed by the unpredictable nature of the exhibitions and the selection of artists, prompting The Container also to trade commercially.
