In 2010 Gallery Yang was founded in 798 Art District, Beijing. It dedicates itself to promoting independent young Chinese artists, and to searching for more possibilities of contemporary art. Now Gallery Yang holds about 5 solo exhibits of young artists per year. Many exhibits evoked good reactions and discussions in the artistic field or in the society, such as My Labor by Yan Bin, I Have Issues by Li Binyuan, A Short History of Everything: Grandma's House and Bosch's Garden by Dong Yuan, and Thank God by Li Wei. In 2010, Gallery Yang and the curator Bao Dong initiated the group exhibit series Painting Lesson, aiming to reflect and organize ideas on easel painting from multiple angles. In the course of the four years until 2014, 34 artists had joined this project. We had been invited to many artistic events in 2014: the Armory Show, Art Basel Hong Kong, Art 14 London, etc. Some participating projects were also promoted by independent documentary, like My Tools by Yan Bing and Fit by Liang Shuo.
We have cooperated with many curators - Guo Xiaoyan, Bao Dong, Cui Cancan, Dai Zhuoqun, and Wei Xin, among others - so as to practice different curatorial ideas. And we have accommodated almost 100 artists with their artistic thoughts. To list only a few names: Ding Yi, Zhou Chunya, Liu Xiaodong, Yan Bing, Liang Shuo, Jiang Pengyi, Kong Lingnan, Li Wei, Chen Zhuo, Shen Ruiyun, Dong Yuan, Li Binyuan, Yan Heng, Ye Linghan, Yang Song, and Zhan Chong. More possibilities lie in the future for us.
