The KwanHoon Gallery, located in the heart of Seoul, first opened its doors in 1979. Its birth served as catalyst, as others soon joined Kwanhoon to create Seoul's thriving gallery district. Kwanhoon gallery now consists of six exhibition spaces within three buildings totaling over 3200 square feet. In the past ten years alone the gallery has shown 6,917 Korean and international artists in 701 solo and group exhibitions.
Kwanhoon has made a significant contribution to the history of Korean contemporary art through its embrace of the Ecole de Seoul movement, as well as a wide variety of artistic approaches by experimental and emerging artists. It has provided a solid ground for the new generation of artists and has played a major role in promoting Korean contemporary art both within Korea and internationally. Since the 1980's, Kwanhoon's vision has been an essential element in the development and global recognition of Korean contemporary art.
