Art Forum Gallery was established in Singapore in 1971 under the name of Raya Gallery, located at the Specialist Centre. The gallery was renamed Art Forum in 1980 when it moved to the Promenade.
In 1989 Art Forum Gallery acquired a 1920's terrace house at 82 Cairnhill Road and converted it into an exhibition space. Art Forum has been at this address since. The art collection is displayed on a rotating basis.
The Gallery was established by Marjorie Chu, who was born in Shanghai, China in 1940 and is now a Singapore citizen. She has been an art dealer and gallery owner since 1971.
Marjorie has organised field trips with artists to Ubud, Bali; Outback Australia (camping); Yunnan, China; the desert towns of Rajasthan, India; Glenlivet, Scotland; Xinjiang, China; and Umbria, Italy.
Marjorie is also a Founder Member of the Art Galleries Association of Singapore; Lecturer to Friends of the Museum, Singapore; and External Lecturer at Temasek Polytechnic, Singapore. She further established the National Museum Shops, Singapore.
Marjorie was the Fair Organiser of ARTSingapore 2002 & 2004, and was also one of the Fair Directors of ARTSingapore in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008.
In 2005, she was President of the Art Galleries Association, Singapore. From 2005-2007 she was President of the Southeast Asian Ceramic Society (Singapore).
Marjorie Chu is the author of Understanding Contemporary Southeast Asian Art published in Singapore, 2003.
