Hong Kong ArtWalk is organized by the Hong Kong galleries and is Hong Kong’s biggest annual charity art event that, since its inception in 2001, has raised nearly HK$5 million for charity from the sale of ArtWalk tickets.
The galleries you visit during ArtWalk are dedicated art galleries that solely exhibit visual art (shopping centres, cafés, picture framing and antique shops are not invited to participate in ArtWalk). The ArtWalk participating galleries are art galleries exhibiting visual art throughout the year and ArtWalk is a yearly showcase for galleries to open their doors for a late-night charity art event.
ArtWalk celebrates art and food – and you can also enjoy wine, water and beer – and as you walk around, please also celebrate historic Central Hong Kong where many galleries are situated.
Hong Kong’s unique landscape and the concentration of galleries in this tight area make ArtWalk successful. This is a natural arts district: an area perfect for showcasing creativity.
By taking a short tram, bus or MTR ride you will easily find more galleries in other parts of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories: Happy Valley, Causeway Bay, Mong Kok, Yau Ma Tei, To Kwa Wan, Fo Tan, Kwun Tong, Chai Wan, Aberdeen and Wong Chuk Hang – attracted by more affordable rents and larger loft-style spaces. This geographical spread adds a richer diversity for art and gives depth and variety to Hong Kong’s artscene.
ArtWalk offers an introduction to that diversity! You and your friends and overseas visitors can visit galleries throughout the year by using the comprehensive ArtWalk website, brochure and map as a listing guide.
