The National Museum of Korea (NMK) endeavors to preserve, exhibit, and interpret Korean
cultural heritage in a manner that befits its international scale. It also strives to grow into a
world-class institution that serves the Korean people through international cultural
exchanges. To achieve these missions, the NMK will focus on three objectives: popular
ization, globalization, and informatization.
The NMK is dedicated to providing extensive visitor services both in quality and quantity,
envisioning a cultural multiplex of great accessibility and comfort. Making cultural welfare
more equitable is one of the key issues in the new millennium, and the NMK will be at the
forefront in delivering cultural benefit to a broader and more diverse audience.
The NMK is responsible for cultural leadership in this day and age of globalization.
Through a variety of exchange programs with other leading museums of the world, the
NMK will foster its sense of internationalism. The NMK will be proactive in promotion of
Korean culture abroad as well as in attracting world audience by presenting quality exhibi
tions and a broad spectrum of world shows. Today is an era of knowledge and informa
tion. Using advanced information technologies, the NMK will not only disseminate
knowledge about our cultural heritage but also maximize the usage of the information by
the museum visitors. The NMK will reinforce its public relation function to make it more
accessible to the mass.
The NMK, the beloved center of Korean cultural heritage, will attempt to grow into a cultural
institution of international recognition. Every member of the NMK family should regard this
endeavor as the wish of all Koreans. As a team, every employee of the NMK will do one’s
best to transform it into the 21st century’s foremost cultural complex and museum of
international stature.
Thank you.
