The Main Gallery
An exhibition space specially customized from three warehouse units, the Main Gallery is a venue for temporary and traveling exhibitions of local, regional and international artists curated by guest curators from Singapore and abroad. It was inaugurated in 2003 with a retrospective of Wu Guanzhong, one of China 's greatest modern artists.
The Main Gallery has since featured a solo exhibition by Singapore artist Siew Hock Meng, known for his excellent landscapes and human figures in pastel and oil, a selection of paintings by Affandi, Sudjojono, Bonnet and others from the Art Retreat collection, a retrospective of the late Singaporean/Indonesian artist Lee Man Fong, and a joint show of works by leading Indonesian pioneer artists.
Wu Guanzhong Gallery
Named after Wu Guanzhong , internationally renowned master of Chinese modern art , the gallery is probably the only museum in the world dedicated exclusively to the exhibition of the artist's works. On display are some of Wu's most significant paintings spanning his entire career from Art Retreat collection.
Many visitors to Art Retreat are surprised to see so many excellent Wu Guanzhong paintings in one permanent exhibition, something they do not get to see even in China . It is certainly a must-see for those interested in this contemporary Chinese artist whose distinctive paintings in ink and oil are becoming increasingly important.
