The Guangzhou International Art Fair is not only one of three major international art fairs which authorizes by national Ministry of Culture, but also one of the important activities which are sponsored by the Guangzhou Government.

In 1993, the China Art Exposition was successful held in Guangzhou, which marked the establishment and continuity in China. In 1996, Guangzhou International Art Fair was hosted by Guangzhou Municipal People’s Government. In this way, the Chinese art expositions began to define the professional coordinate and trend through a situation of tripartite confrontation of Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.From 1996, it has been held 13 times.

In recent years, the large numbers of galleries and art institutes and artists actively participated in the Guangzhou International Art Fair. They came from other countries and districts except for the internal, for example France, Australia, Germany, Russia, America, Mexico, Japan, Korea, North Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Iceland and Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao. It conducted many exhibitions of Chinese and foreign painters, such as “The Impression of France”, “The Centenary Exhibition of Dali”, “Sculpture Exhibition of Arman”, “French Art Special Zone”, “Russia Oil Painting Exhibition” and “Wu Guanzhong Ink and Water Painting Exhibition”, “Exhibition of three Famous Painters of Ling Nan”, “Inheritance and Fusion”, “Oil Painting-New Strength of China”. The exhibition includes oil painting, Chinese painting, print painting, sculpture, calligraphy, handicraft articles, installation as well as photography.
